Watermelon Cucumber Salad at Liliana's Liliana's Dining Room Liliana's Bar

Liliana’s in Fitchburg has introduced a new summer menu.  This menu features  appetizers such as Barbecue Prawns, Shucked Oysters, and Ceviche, salads that include what we believe to be the best salad in town (their Cucumber Watermelon Salad, pictured below), and entrees like Chicken Roulade, Pasta Fresco,  and Pulled Pork Pasta.

In addition to the new menu, be sure to check out their Tuesday Tasting Menu.  They’ve taken a unique approach to what has become a relatively common trend in Madison restaurants.  Each week they offer a unique menu, which is put together by a holding a competition with the chefs.  The best ideas are compiled together for the three course Tuesday Tasting Menu ($30), after which that menu is retired.

Liliana’s also offers music Tuesday through Saturday nights, with no cover charge.  Click the video below to catch a glimpse.

    Our family of 6 is very busy, running 2-separate businesses; thus we tend to eat out frequently by ordering and taking out quality meals from various restaurants. This evening was no exception. Our family had discussed trying something new, and had decided to give Liliana’s in Fitchburg a try.

    Tonight there were only 3-members home, and the other 1/2 of my family wanted us to wait for another night, to try Liliana’s the new taste in town. To appease everyone, I promised the other 3, since Liliana’s entrees sounded so different and absolutely fabulous, especially on a hot summer night; if the meal turned out as delicious as advertised, we would again order from Liliana’s later in the week.

    We did not have a problem paying $45 for takeout for 3 people, but were shocked when my son arrived home with our orders and opened the bag containing minuscule portions. The most unreasonable entree was the shaved apple-walnut salad; the amount contained in the large takeout paper container would NOT have filled a 1/2-cup! I asked my son, who was the one, who had gone to Liliana’s, placed our takeout order, and immediately returned home with approximately 14 ounces of food costing $45 dollars plus tip; – IF he had mistakenly ordered a side salad, instead of a dinner salad. The price paid for the shaved apple-walnut salad; which can only be described as less than a-half cup of very wilted, bottom of the barrel salad, was definitely NOT the price of a half-cup side salad!

    I frequently write complimentary letters whenever purchases, and or service are above standard. I have NEVER complained about, nor have I ever returned a meal in my life; but the takeout meal from Liliana’s was so disappointing, I found the need to write a comment. The 3-members of our family felt so cheated, especially the salad victim, my initial thought was, in case of error, I needed to address our disappointment directly with management. I called the telephone number listed above, and on Liliana’s website, being 608-442-4444. But once again, I felt cheated, as there was NO REAL person, who answered my call. Instead the only option given, was for me to listen to the voice message extolling the new Liliana’s restaurant, and the hours the restaurant is open, so future customers, never repeats, would know the times to go to be ripped off.

    Obviously, Liliana’s owners and management do not to want waste any money on lettuce, or having a REAL person available to answer the only telephone number listed. Thus, there is no way, other than to get back into the car and return to Liliana’s, in order to have this establishment answer simple questions, or address problems customers encountered. This is most unusual for any business, especially a new business, which falsely advertises their, “salads – which they believe are the best salad in town”! The quote is only true of the written description and NOT the product!

    Suffice it to say, do NOT go to Liliana’s without eating a large meal before you go, do NOT order the advertised, “Best salad in town”, as it looks and tastes like scrapings from the bottom of the barrel. Better yet, if you are hungry for a summer salad for dinner, spend your money wisely, go out and purchase your own fresh, un-wilted produce, you can get much more than ½ cup, and it will be filling and what you expected; thereby not abusing your time, appetite, or wallet!

    I will be watching to see if my review is allowed to be seen on the Lilianna’s website.

    After checking back on the website, in order to see if my email was posted or deleted; I found the following statement attached to my name and the time I submitted my comments, “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”

    What does this statement mean? Will my comments be removed, and thus never seen by the public? Or, does this statement mean, only sections of my comments will be retained, and or used; which would further mislead any person, who might use this website for an accurate accounting of a customer’s prior experience at Liliana’s?

    We would like to clear up some misunderstandings which were posted in your comment. You posted your comments on MadisonDining.com, not on Liliana’s Restaurant website. We are not affiliated with Liliana’s, though we have been very satisfied diners at Liliana’s.
