David Bacco Chocolats, located at Hilldale, represents one of the artisan chocolatiers that have emerged in Madison in recent times. David, the founder, has been in Madison for the last decade, doing stints at The Opera House, The Madison Club, and Tuscany Mediterranean Grill. Perfecting his work with chocolate at the well respected Cocoliquot, he has now turned his attention to David Bacco Chocolats. And he’s done so with spectacular results.
David Bacco Chocolats are inspired by the five elements of nature – earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. He keeps this in mind as he applies his artistic vision to the creative process. He brings the art, chocolate and nature together in his end product – some of the best tasting, eye-catching chocolate creations you’ll come across. These chocolates are flavored with unique ingredients like jasmine, chai, lavendar, rosemary, cinnamon, ginger, curry, chili pepper, and Szechuan peppercorn.
We find David Bacco Chocolats to be the perfect combination of soul-satisfying chocolate and visionary art, as show in the photos below. And don’t just limit yourself to buying some chocolate for your loved one, or, for that matter, for yourself. They also serve coffee, hot chocolates, and other treats on the premises.

Did you actually try these chocolates, or just look at them? Honestly, they are godawful. They taste like Hershey’s leftover Forastero floor sweepings bound together with melted crayon wax, and the occasional shake from a random Penzey’s bottle. We got a large sampler box, trying virtually one of each kind, and almost gave up 1/4 of the way in, because they were so bad. There was not ONE single chocolate that was passable, but many that were inedible. Shame this place is next to Muramoto.
Clearly taste is subjective, but I find David Bacco Chocolats wonderfully original and DELICIOUS! He chocolate has a unique blend of flavors, colors and textures varying in degrees of sweetness or spiciness. The Vanilla Creme Brulee chocolates are divine!
